Nutella and Banana Sandwich

Nutella and Banana Sandwich

One of my favorite go to breakfasts, lunches and/or snacks are nutella and banana sandwiches. I almost always have all of the ingredients on hand and if you combine that with how yummy they are and how quick and easy they are to make, I tend to have them fairly often. Nutella goes really well with a lot of fruits, though banana seems to be the one that I keep coming back to. I normally eat them in sandwich fashion with two slices of bread but an open faced sandwich, or toast, also works really well. I sometimes even butter them up and grill them so that they are nice and golden brown on the outside and the nutella is warm and melted on the inside. You could also easily turn it into french toast for something a bit different.

I have been eating Nutella since I was a little girl. Long before it became popular in the US, my family would bring it back with them from Italy. My friends were always jealous of the "chocolate" sandwiches I had. Eating it with bananas was always one of my favorites. I also love it with raspberry preserves, still one of my favorite combos.

Mmm ... a go-to for me as well. Though, I also happen to think that Nutella, taken on a spoon, makes a breakfast of champions. :)

You should make banana bran muffins with a Nutella filling. Yum.

I do this same thing, with different variations - often, strawberries instead of bananas and sometimes a buttered, grilled pita instead of bread. Nutella is one of my favorite things EVER.

We make this all the time!

Oh these kinds of breakfasts are dangerous. They can get addicting!

Next time, if you use two slices of bread when you do it, cover one in nutella, the other in peanut butter, layer the bananas in between and panini press it. That, my friend, is heaven.

Mind you I also used to slather nutella on (lengthwise) banana slices. Yum.

So simple, so perfectly yummy. Now clearly the next step is making your own nutella - have you ever done it?

Toast hazelnuts in oven. Rub off skins with a towel. Pulverize in food processor. Add cocoa, drizzle in hazelnut (or walnut) oil to help liquify, then add powdered sugar to sweeten, a pinch of salt. Amazing stuff.

WHY!! WHY did you post this. I have been craving this and then seeing this picture took me over the edge. where is the closest grocery store that carries nutella? why don't I have this now....

YUM.. this used to be one of my favourite go-to breakfasts. I am so disappointed I developed an allergy to bananas, so I have switched to Nutella with sliced strawberries. Even though they don't have the same creamy texture, the flavour is at least a good match.

Jan said...

I used to love banana butties (sandwiches) before I developed an allergy to bananas. I bet they taste great with nutella spread.

love it! please don't be too grossed out but this reminds me of our family's #1 most popular sandwich when i was growing up (in the south, and in a large family on a tight budget, sandwich meat was a rare treat). we had: banana + PB + mayonnaise sandwiches. still comfort food to me today too, isn't that terrible?! :)

chocolate and bananas are good together, but i think nutella is the PERFECT mate. this looks just luscious.

I recently grilled up a chocolate and banana sandwich in my panini press and it was out of this world. If only I had had some Nutella at home, I would have used it in place of the chocolate. I love that banana-chocolate-hazelnut combination!

This would do to satisfy my chocolate sweets cravings that I've been having since couple days.

I love this tasty treat, but it also reminded me of a personal favorite: Strawberry Nutella Panini. Homemade bread, a little butter and a grill pan, thinly sliced berries and a smear of nutella. Mmmmm...
