While everyone is waiting for the big dinner you cannot let them starve and this is where the snacks and appetizers come in. The appetizers or hors d oeuvres, are always one of my favourite parts of planning Thanksgiving and they are a great way to make your Thanksgiving day stand out. There are just so many different things that you can do with appetizers from a simple platter of meats, cheeses and fruit, to cookies, to dips, to chips, to crostini or even finger sized pies. Although I always enjoy sticking in season with pumpkin and cranberry dishes, I don't let it constrain me too much and I am not afraid to mix it up with combinations of sweet and savoury. The only thing that you need to be careful about really, is that you do not ruin your guests appetite for the big meal!
Pumpkin Dip - This pumpkin dip reminds me of a lot of a pumpkin pie cheesecake and dipping into it with gingersnap cookies is the perfect way to enjoy it! It's like having dessert for a snack!
Artichoke Bread - Instead of serving a dip with bread for dipping, how about baking the dip on the bread and this tasty artichoke dip is definitely a great way to go!
Pumpkin White Chocolate and Macadamia Nut Cookies - Cookies always make a welcome addition to a party platter and these white chocolate and macadamia nut cookies spiked with a hit of pumpkin are just perfect for Thanksgiving!
Kolokythokeftedes (Zucchini and Feta Balls) - Another appetizer that is on the healthier side, these zucchini balls with fresh herbs and feta are sure to please and they go great with a bowl of tzatziki on the side for dipping.
Cranberry Turtle Bars - Normally when I think of appetizers, I think of savoury but these shortbread, caramel, pecan and chocolate bars with some festive cranberries thrown in are not to be missed at your Thanksgiving party!
Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip - You really can't go wrong with dips at party and hot cheesy dips like this spinach and artichoke dip are among my favourites.
Parmesan Crusted Baked Zucchini Sticks with Marinara Sauce - If you are looking for something on the healthier side, these baked zucchini sticks are the way to go and they will definitely disappear quickly.
Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars - Apples are in season and it is you cannot go wrong with bars that combine shortbread, cheesecake and apple crumble and they are then topped off with caramel sauce!
Nothing quite says the holidays among appetizers like this Baked Brie with Cranberry Sauce and you really cannot go wrong with melted brie, sweet and tangy cranberry sauce all wrapped in a light, flaky, buttery crust!
If you are looking for something a little bit different, these Thai Lemon Shrimp are super tasty and bound to draw rave reviews and they will disappear fast!
Jalapeno poppers are classic party food and this Bacon Wrapped Buffalo Chicken Jalapeno Popper take on them is even better than the original.
Succulent shrimp are amazing all by themselves but coat them in a sweet and spicy sauce and wrap them in a crispy coating like in these Firecracker Shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce and you ave something truly amazing!
Cucumber and Feta Rolls - These cucumber and feta rolls are another healthy snacking idea that does not lack for anything in the flavour department!
If you are willing to spurge a bit on the tuna these Ahi Tuna Tostadas are sure to be the talk of Thanksgiving.
Spanakopita (Greek Spinach Pie) - Always makes for a crowd pleaser and when done in triangles they make for perfect finger food!
