How to Make Chestnut Puree

I have been looking for chestnut recipes lately and I have seen a few that call for chestnut puree. Since I have a bunch of fresh chestnuts I thought: Why don't I make my own chestnut puree? When making the chestnut puree I used boiled chestnuts as they are softer than roasted chestnuts. Chestnut puree comes both sweetened and unsweetened varieties. If you wasted to make a sweetened puree you could just add sugar or some other sweetener such as maple syrup or honey, etc.

How to Make Chestnut Puree

  1. Place every thing in a small sauce pan. (The liquid should just cover the chestnuts.)
  2. Simmer the chestnuts until soft, about 10-20 minutes. (Watch them as milk can quickly boil over the side of a pan.)
  3. Scoop the chestnuts out of the liquid, reserving the liquid.
  4. Puree the chestnuts using as much of the reserved liquid as required.

Do you by chance, know of any quality online food services? I am starting to order all my food online because of various reasons. (Health being one of them) So far I have found 2 services, Fresh Dining (an LA company) and Celebrity Foods, but you have to call them so they can talk to you about your need. I would really like any suggestions that you may have, so I can widen my list of quality places online where I can order healthy food from.

So happy you posted this one!!! I've called several specialty food stores locally and none of them carries chestnut puree and at least 2 stores have never heard of it....
So I guess I'm going to make some, my own!

I've been trying to find chestnut cream (puree) since I got back from france 2 years ago. Most people I ask in the stores just give me a blank look (only 1 guy knew what I was talking about, and that's cause he's french). I guess I'm making my own now then, because mixing it in with Greek Yogourt is AMAZING :)

You can make chestnut balls and dip them in chocolate. Believe me it is heavenly. Chocolate and Chestnuts were meant to be together.
