I have been seeing a few recipes for green vegetables in oyster sauce like this one for steamed baby bok choy in oyster sauce . It looked like a simple and tasty way to enjoy green vegetables. I like to try to include green vegetables in my meals whenever I can. When I was planning my dan dan mian meal I remembered this recipe for steamed greens in oyster sauce and I thought that it would be the perfect way to add some green to the meal. Steaming is one of my favorite way to cook green vegetables and it is quick and simple. The oyster sauce worked really well on the steamed green vegetables. It was tasty but not overpowering. The sauce was salty and a touch sweet and the sesame oil added a great aroma. I served the steamed baby bok choy in oyster sauce with some fried shallots that went well with the sauce. I have heard that fried garlic is a good alternate to the fried shallots and I will have to try it. I also tried some broccolini in the oyster sauce with fried shallots and I imagine that broccoli and asparagus would also work well.

Wow, that certainly DOES look like a simple and tasty way to enjoy green vegetables – yum!!
Since I’m obsessed with kale, spinach, and broccoli, I definitely get enough green vegetables each and every day; but bok choy is one that I definitely have yet to try!
Beautiful! I love this sort of side dish.
that is totally how you have pak choi! good oyster sauce and some fried shallots. my mum makes the best soy sauce minced pork dish to go with it..
i so love your blog. makes me happy every time i visit.x
Peter of Souvlaki From the Soul is a great cook, and a fabulous photog. He deserves lots of credit for this dish and many others.
Kevin, you have a knack for reproducing new dishes like you’ve made them since being a kid!
So nice Kevin,.You surprise me everyday!xGloria
Your photos are improving as quickly as your cooking.
What a fresh and tasty looking dish! I love baby bok choy and I’m going to have to try it this way.
Kevin, try to combine oyster sauce and hoisin sauce, you will find a new taste 🙂
Ha, I’ve oyster sauce *something* up too! Yes, I prefer this cooking of veg (steam or blanch) to stir frying. And for me, I prefer fried shallots on veg to fried garlic. Fried shallots are so good on noodles soup too 🙂
This dish is a winner, in my eyes.
Isn’t this a wonderful, easy dish? It’s comfort food for me.
How about fried garlic and shallots together? You can make it yourself and store it in a little oil. It’s perfect atop noodle soups and vegetable dishes like this.
Simplicity is the key here and it proves once again that “less is more.” Well done.
That broccolini has my eye, I can taste it through your photo!
Wow, that looks so good!
Are you on the TV over there
Kevin? Because you ought to be. Not sure if it’s shown where you are but you would for sure win ‘MasterChef’!

I love baby bok choy. Topping it off with fried shallots is a great choice! Hey your photography is getting really good! I suggest though, maybe changing the mat? hehehe..
I saw this on tastespotting and I knew it was you! I recognised the plate and the mat – plus the gorgeous presentation as usual!
I was going through my fridge the other day and found my bottle of oyster sauce. I was trying to think of what I could use it on – and this sounds fantastic!
Looks really good and yummy.

I still had some baby bok choy and I tried it with oyster sauce and hoisin sauce with fried shallots. The oyster and hoisin sauce was nice and tasty as well.
Looks SO good, Kevin! I adore bok choy but I have to say that I’ve never made anything with it myself, only eaten it at other places.
Great idea. I have all the sauce ingredients on hand. I will try this with something green soon! yum!
Simply lovely. If only the farmers market would get rolling here! The Hmong vendors always have the best greens.
Simple ingredients make perfect dishes!
That is one of my favourite dishes! There’s just something about oyster sauce – its delicious! Were the fried shallots hard to find?

i love bok choy. beautiful plating. wish my hubby would eat the stuff though
I make this dish quite a bit, it is simply delicious. As for the “oyster sauce” I recommend Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand as the best tasting.
