Ebi Yakisoba (Shrimp and Fried Noodles)

[heart_this] · Jan 16, 2008 · 23 Comments

Ebi Yakisoba (Shrimp and Fried Noodles)

Yakisoba (????) is a Japanese stir fried noodle dish. Despite the fact that the name includes “soba” it is commonly made with ramen style noodles rather than with soba noodles. I have made yakisoba with soba noodles and they also work well. The noodles are stir fried in a yakisoba sauce with meat and vegetables. Yakisoba sauce, like tonkatsu sauce, is a Japanese sauce that is similar to Worcestershire sauce and HP sauce. I was able to find some yakisoba sauce at a nearby Japanese grocery store. The meat can be pork, beef, chicken, etc. This time I though I would try shrimp. The vegetables are commonly cabbage, onions, carrots, etc. One of the reasons that I like this dish is that it is great for using up those extra vegetables in my fridge. I also like this dish because it is quick and it tastes good. This dish reminds me of eating yakisoba in Japan when I was there on vacation.

    That looks DELICIOUS! Bravo.
Those shrimp look really big. Our shrimp aren’t very good, here. Obviously, since we are located in the middle of the United States.

I want to make a dish like this, using soba, but I want to add some tropical flair to it. Any suggestions?

Sounds wonderful Thanks so much for sharing with Presto Pasta Nights. Hopefully the local Asian Grocery stores (there are only two) will have some of that sauce.

You actually believe that soba isn't normally used, and a ramen-type noodle is used in its place?

If it makes you happy, then continue believing this, or go and get the proper noodle, because it makes all the difference in the world.

Jenny: I have not tried making my own yakisoba sauce. I will have to look into it. If you are in the US, online stores like Amazon carry and ship it.
