I have been enjoying the sweet and savoury combination of grilled cheese sandwiches with jam for a while. With my newly made mango and cardamom jam in hand the first thing that came to mind, after the required display of the jam on toast of course, was a grilled cheese sandwich with mango and cardamom jam. There is just something magical about that melted gooey, savoury, cheese contrasted with a sweet jam all wrapped up in golden brown buttery grilled bread…mmm… The grilled cheese sandwich with mango and cardamom jam met and even exceeded all of my expectations with the addition of the aromatic cardamom lifting it above other grilled cheese and jam sandwiches from the past.
Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Mango and Cardamom Jam
- 2 slices bread
- 1 tablespoon butter (room temperature)
- 2 slices cheese (cheddar, gruyere, etc.)
- 1 tablespoon mango and cardamom jam (or any jam)
- Assemble the sandwich and grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
Kevin, what a good idea to have grilled cheese sandwich with the mango and cardamom jam. I would have just spread them on plain bread. It sure make your breakfast more appetising. 🙂

Totally different combination, but I can see how it works. Very cool.
Tomorrow is Greek Easter, that is some of the best food on the planet!
What a neat idea! I never would have thought of adding jelly to my grilled cheese. Seeing how yours turned out, I think I might just give it a try!
what an interesting combination. I can see it has hints of Indian flavors.

I love that you are celebrating grilled cheese month! If I recall, you also made a grilled cheese sandwich with your mango chutney? I would take either, gladly!
Oh yum! I am loving this.
Mmmmmhhhh, what more can I say?!

Terribly tempting! A gorgeous grilled sandwich!
For me this combination is a bit strange because we don’t usually combine jam with cheese in a sandwich, only in desserts. But it sounds great.

Wow, I wanted to make that jam before, but now I *need* to. That looks awesome.
Kevin that grilled cheese sounds like it should be on the menu of a gourmet sandwich shop..
Drool… That looks absolutely yummy. I love grilled cheese, but I would of never thought of putting jam in there. Great idea!
now that’s a good combo of flavors going on!
I am such a fan of different takes on grilled cheese. I would not have thought to put these ingredients (or similar) together. Very creative Kevin, It looks delicious.
Mmmm I love this combination. I might have to try and recreate it at home.
Jam and grilled cheese. Hmmm… I’m going to make one right now. I have a jar of tropical jam that sounds good with this. Thanks for the out-of-the-box idea!

Jeeee. .. You must really like mangoes! but I get it: we had a bumper crop of kumquats this year and almost every other recipe I make now has kumquat in it.
I love your gourmet choice for this grilled sandwich.
wow what a neat idea – i bet the mango was good w/the sandwich!
Now this is a great idea for grilled cheese. Yum!
Grilled cheese and jam? Oh, wow, I have to try this! I’ve done grilled cheese and fresh fruit before, but I bet a good mango jam is amazing. Yum!

Looks great Kevin! I love sweet and savoury combos 🙂
What a great idea, I love grilled cheese, never thought to pair it with jam! I recently made a grilled Jarlsberg with fresh mushrooms and alfalfa, also a little different. Have to give yours a try!
Wow- you Americans should really brand out more. Perhaps try something that doesn’t include bread and cheese. Vegetables perhaps? Grilled cheese mango jam isn’t a recipe. Its a hangover cure.
I’m not usually a sandwich fan, but I couldn’t resist this!
Your mango mood is contagious and provocative. Can’t wait to try all your suggestions.
What an interesting combination – I’ve never thought to put cheese and mango together, but I can totally see it!

There’s nothing like grilled cheese!
I love grilled cheese with jam. Your mango cardamom jam sounds fabulous – and I just happen to have cardamom pods sitting around.
Intriguing combination 🙂
Interesting!! I might try this some time.
I have been on a real mango kick lately, adding it to all sorts of savory dishes, so this looks right up my alley!
That looks so incredibly good. I love the whole sweet and savory combo to begin with. Combined with toasted cheese sandwiches — oh, amazing! I can’t wait to try this some time soon. It looks fast too, which is always a plus.

WHat about quince marmalade and mozzarella? I was introduced to this combination years ago by a coworker and it's amazing. I just never thought of grilling it!
