Maple Pecan Granola

[heart_this] · Aug 11, 2008 · 55 Comments

Maple Pecan Granola

When I was a kid I enjoyed eating granola cereal with milk for breakfast. I really liked the crunchy texture and all of the goodies that were mixed in with the granola. I had not had granola in a long time and I wanted to try making some for myself. Last weekend I finally got around to doing it. Granola is basically rolled oats, nuts and honey that is baked until crispy. You can add other goodies to granola such as more grains, dried fruits, or even chocolate. I wanted to keep my first granola pretty simple and I was thinking that it had to contain both maple syrup and pecans. I quickly found this recipe for maple pecan granola which was just what I was looking for. The granola was super simple to make; You just mix the ingredients and bake stirring the granola a few times to ensure that it remains loose and that it does not stick together too much. The maple pecan granola turned out really well! It was nice and crunchy and it had just the right amount of sweetness. I found that I was grabbing just one more handful to snack on each time I passed it. Since the granola was so easy to make I am now looking forward to experimenting with different combinations of ingredients.

I think this is the best time of the year for granola – I like mine with yogurt and fresh fruit.

Yours looks great, and less oil than a lot of recipes I’ve seen.

I miss the granola I use to make before I had to avoid certain grains. Your post made me want to play around with the grains I can have to come up with an alternative. Your recipe sounds soooo yummy.

I used to bake my own granola every week! Only I would make a lot more at a time… about 6 cups of oats. Then i would vary the sweeteners and ingredients. It’s amazing what you can add: cinnamon, cardamon, orange zest, you name it.
I can’t wait to bake a batch when I get home

You know – I just made my first batch of granola on Saturday. I can send u a pic if you’d like. I guess I did it because I was sure that I could make it and save money. And it turns out that I can. The only problem was that I burned my first batch – lol. But the second batch is good – and I used dried mangos, craisins, and raisins as the fruit. Maple though, huh? That’s something I’m gonna have to try.

I LOVE granola, all kinds, doesn’t really matter what you put in it, I haven’t met a granola I didn’t like. Besides the store bought really fattening kind, I don’t know if I’ve ever tried maple, and now I want to. It is SO good on top of some vanilla yogurt with fresh berries on top!

this looks to me exactly what granola should be! too often recipes have way too much oil which kind of negates the health benefits of the good fats in nuts and the other ingredients. beautiful!
