Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

[heart_this] · Jun 25, 2008 · 56 Comments

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

It has been almost a year since I picked up an ice cream maker and I have been enjoying home made frozen treats since. So far I’ve made a few ice creams and a sorbet and I now wanted to try something different. I realized that I have not tried making one of my favorite frozen dishes, a frozen yogurt. I had to fix that immediately. Strawberries were the obvious choice since they are in season and looking so good. One of the things that I like most about making my own ice cream is the simplicity of the recipes. There are only a few ingredients and you can pronounce all of them. This recipe is a perfect example with only four simple ingredients. One thing that you may want to watch out for in this recipe is the sweetness. Plain yogurt can be a bit tart so you will want to test the mixture for sweetness before freezing it. The strawberry frozen yogurt was good! I really enjoyed the texture of the frozen yogurt and the strawberry flavour. Next time I think I will leave some bigger chunks of strawberries in.

Your frozen yogurt looks good! Once I tried making it by freezing regular yogurt, but that obviously didn’t work too well.. haha

Have you ever tried using a flavored yogurt?

Amen to being able to pronounce all the ingredients in a recipe. Some commercial ice creams have so many ingredients, it’s scary! Your frozen yogurt looks delicious Kevin!

You’re absolutely right about the sweetness, Kevin– I tried making frozen yogurt once and it was still too tart for me! Maybe I was expecting it to be like the frozen yogurts off the supermarket 🙂

Ohhh! Do you love your ice cream maker so much you want to marry it? I have wanted one for ages but have never got around to taking the plunge and buying one. Partly because my freezer doesn’t always get super-chilly, and partly because I think I would become ice cream obsessed…

whether kefir has the same flavor of yogurt?

dhan: I have never had kefir. The description sounds like it might be similar, in that it is a fermented dairy product. I will have to look for some to try.
