The other day I was eating some butter chicken (an India dish with chicken in a creamy, mildly spicy, tomato sauce/gravy) and as I was enjoying it I thought, wouldn’t this be great served over fries and cheese instead of rice? (aka Butter Chicken Poutine) Poutine is a dish where fries are served topped with melting cheese and gravy and I was thinking that the butter chicken ‘gravy’ would be amazing in poutine form. I mean you really can’t go wrong throwing a really tasty gravy on top of fries along with cheese that is all melty and good? It didn’t take long for me to whip up a batch of butter chicken and make the butter chicken poutine and it was amazing! This butter chicken poutine is definitely going to be on my recipe list for my next football party!
Butter Chicken Poutine
Creamy and tasty butter chicken served on top of hot french fries and melting cheese curds!
ingredients
- 2/3 pound french fries
- 2 cups butter chicken
- 1 cup cheese curds (or shredded cheddar or shredded mozzarella)
directions
- Cook the fries, warm the butter chicken and serve the hot fries topped with the cheese and hot butter chicken.
The idea of combining these two amazing dishes is ingenious! Looks delicious!

I'm not a big fan of butter chicken, but my husband tried the President's Choice Butter Chicken Poutine Kit the other day and he enjoyed it. I do make butter chicken for him at home sometimes, so I'll have to try this next time. I'd much rather make it myself! 🙂

Sounds good (and deceptively simple) but one of the three ingredients is “Butter Chicken,” which links to a recipe with 17 ingredients. One of those ingredients is “Tandoori Chicken” which itself has an additional 12 ingredients.
If I happened to get some Butter Chicken delivered I might consider serving it over french fries with some cheese curds, but no way I’d make this from scratch.
