BBQ ribs has to be one of my favourite things about summer and I have just been itching to try cooking them in the slow cooker! Getting perfectly cooked, juicy, fall off the bone tender ribs can sometimes be tricky but the slow cooker makes it almost effortless! With the slow cooker you just need to season the ribs, place them in the slow cooker with the ribs vertical, wrapped around the inside, pour on the BBQ sauce and cook on low until nice and tender, about 6-8 hours. Once the ribs are cooked you can slather on more BBQ sauce and throw them onto the grill (or under the broiler) to get that smoky grilled flavour! Speaking of sauce, for these ribs I went with my roasted strawberry BBQ sauce which is perfect for the summer!
Finger licking good!
Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs with Roasted Strawberry BBQ Sauce
The slow cooker makes fall off the bone tender ribs almost effortless! Finish them off on the grill (or under the broiler) for that charred and smoky grill flavour!
ingredients
- 2 pounds baby back pork ribs, fat trimmed
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce (try my roasted strawberry BBQ sauce)
directions
- Pat the ribs dry, season with salt and pepper, place them in the slow cooker with the bones vertical wrapped around the inside, pour 1 cup of the BBQ sauce over the ribs and cook on low until fall off the bone tender, about 6-8 hours.
- Brush the remaining BBQ sauce on the ribs and grill or broil until the sauce is bubbling and just starting to char.

This is great in the summer when you do not want the oven on…you can even make the day before…then just remove from the frig and let set out for 1/2 hour…and grill perfect!! If you make ribs in the oven…you need the oven on for almost 2 hours!

Somehow when I first glanced at the title of this recipe I saw 'roasted rhubarb'… You can't go wrong with a strawberry-rhubarb combination; I challenge you, Kevin!

could you let us know what size/quantity the nutrition facts specify? 600+ calories for a single rib, 4 oz, two pounds, ? thanks 🙂

Che delizia questo piatto!!!!

md: Rhubarb would be a great addition to the strawberry BBQ sauce!

Anonymous: The recipe calls for 2lbs of ribs for 4 servings so that is 8oz per person or about 4 ribs.

I just made the strawberry bbq sauce and the chicken club (my first recipe from your blog) and I have to say it was excellent. The sauce hit it out of the park and I want to make a bunch more to make these ribs…I can only imagine what a great combo they are. The strawberry salad is on tomorrow's lunch menu and I can't wait to give that a try.

Anonymous: Glad you enjoyed it! I am totally addicted to the strawberry BBQ sauce! Luckily I made a big batch and I have some leftover for something else!

Can you make these ribs in the oven? I do not have a slow cooker.
Karen says
I’m not sure how long to grill the ribs after they cook in slow cooker (?] On medium or high heat? Cook on both sides or just one side? Please answer quickly. I want to make this recipe soon. & def the sauce! Thank you
kevin says
You just cook the side of the ribs with the meat. It should take 3-5 minutes for the sauce to start bubbling at high heat in the grill or about 2-3 minutes under the broiler. Enjoy!
Ruth says
Love this…because if you make ribs in the oven in the summer…it heats up your house..so you could even cook them in the crock pot the day before…and then take out and let set on the counter a bit, put on grill to heat through and then brush the meat side with sauce and grill a few minutes…great if you have guests…easy!

These are the easiest and best tasting ribs I have made. I love the roasted strawberry bbq sauce. I always make a little extra to have later in the week for the grilled chicken sandwich. Thank you Kevin for always providing great recipes, easy to follow instructions and so many options with your recipes.

I know this is probably perfectly clear to everyone else, but I do not understand what is meant by the part inside the parentheses — “place them in the slow cooker (with the bones vertical wrapped around the inside)”
I wish there had been a picture of that part, or more of a description as to how it was to be done.
Trudi says
Instead of just laying them on the bottom of the slow cooker, you wrap them around the walls for the crock. So the bones are vertical.
Trudi Ross says
“of” the crock, not “for”.
