Are you looking for a snack for game day or an appetizer for a New Year’s Eve party or just something for a get-together? These tasty ham and cheese rolls with caramelized pineapple and onions are perfect; nice and quick and easy and oh so good! I came across the idea for hot ham and cheese party rolls a while ago and the holidays was a great time to pull out the recipe. They are super easy to make, you just roll out a dough, lay down some slices of ham and cheese along with caramelized onions and pineapple, roll them up, pour on a tasty sauce and bake them until they are fabulously golden brown and flaky and good! The original recipe calls for a pizza dough but I went with a crescent dough and I added the caramelized onions and pineapple to add a touch of sweetness and tanginess that compliments the ham and cheese combo really well. These ham and cheese rolls with caramelized pineapple and onions are the perfect finger food for any party!

I just made this, it is in the oven as I type. A couple of issues: adding the caramelized onions on top of the cheese makes it start to melt. The dough melts, too. Makes it really hard to roll up tightly. Smells awesome as it is baking though.

i can't buy crescent roll dough, so i want to make it myself. so how much is 1 1/2 packages?
kevin says
Unknown: One crescent roll recipe or one pizza dough recipe is the perfect size!

Hi Kevin, I made these the other day and although I inadvertently left the ham and poppy seed out (too much multi-tasking!) they were really delicious. I plan to make again this week and make sure they have my full attention so nothing gets left out. Even without everything my family gobbled them up! One suggestion to the commenter above, make sure you have cooled your onion mixture before using, it helps.

How do you measure "1 cup pineapple, sliced"?
Jane Zimmerman says
I was wondering the same thing as I was reading the recipe. Would like the know the answer please! Thanks! (Re measuring 1 cup sliced pineapple)
kevin says
You want pieces of pineapple that are about 1 inch long by 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch and you want enough of them to fill a cup. If you are using fresh pineapple slice them down to about this size. If you are using canned pineapple, the ones labeled as ‘tidbits’ should be closest to the size desired. If the canned pineapple that you have is larger then you can slice that into smaller pieces. Enjoy!
