Maple Snickerdoodles

Out of the sample Brien maple products the one that I was looking forward to the most was the maple sugar. I had never used maple sugar but I had been wanting to for a while. I had also found the the perfect recipe to try the maple sugar out with on all recipes ; maple snickerdoodles . These maple snickerdoodles are pretty much just snickerdoodles that use maple syrup in the cookie dough for flavour and they are rolled in a maple sugar coating. Like most cookies the maple snickerdoodles were really easy to make, taking almost no time at all and they turned out great! They were nice and crispy on the edges and soft on the inside but they were full of amazing maple flavour all the way through. What a great way to satisfy a maple craving! Luckily I still have some more maple sugar to enjoy and experiment with.

Maple Snickerdoodles

Maple Snickerdoodles

Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes Servings: 36
ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple sugar
directions
  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar in another bowl.
  3. Beat the egg and maple syrup into the butter and sugar.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet.
  5. Mix the white sugar and maple sugar in a small bowl.
  6. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and roll the balls in the sugar mixture.
  7. Place the balls on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until golden brown and cracked on top, about 8-10 minutes.

    Snickerdoodles are hands down in my top three favorite cookies of all time. I’m not sure what the other two are, but I hesitate to give away such valuable spots.

    Maple snickerdoodles?! I LOVE that idea. I was never a fan of maple syrup until the first time I had the real stuff when I moved to New York. I bet it would be luscious in these cookies!

    Maple is the best flavor. My Dad use to buy us the maple leaf candies from Hickory Farms each year at Christmas. Some flavors always bring back a smile. Your cookies look delicious.

    I was totally thinking of doing something similar last week — maybe making maple buttercream snickerdoodles, — but I decided to save that experiment for a later date and just make traditional snickerdoodles.

    We went to a wedding in Ottawa not long ago, and they gave out little bottles of maple syrup as parting gifts. I’ll find some of this maple sugar and use mine up making these yummy looking cookies!

    Snickerdoodle cookies are a staple in my house. I never thought about the idea of using maple syrup in them. Are they chewy? I’ve found there’s a fine line with the baking time with this type of cookie. One extra minute and they get hard. Is that the case with you?

    I assume the recipe calls for 1/4 cup maple syrup? (quantity is missing) Use the rest of your sugar in making maple sugar pie. it’s fantastic

    Culinary Cory: Yep, baking cookies is a challenge. You have to pull them out at just the right time even if they do not seem as if they are quite done yet as they can continue to bake a bit with the residual heat. It is a skill that I need more practice at.

    The first tray came out nice and soft and chewy so I left the second tray in a bit longer and they came out just crispy on the edges but they were still nice and soft and chewy on the inside.

    Cheryl: I have only seen maple sugar in small specialty shops and at maple farms/stores. You should be able to order some from an online maple store if you cannot find any locally.

    Emergent Teacher: Cream 1/2 cup butter with 1 cup white sugar. The remaining 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup maple sugar are used to roll the cookie dough balls in. Enjoy!
