Out of the sample Brien maple products the one that I was looking forward to the most was the maple sugar. I had never used maple sugar but I had been wanting to for a while. I had also found the the perfect recipe to try the maple sugar out with on all recipes ; maple snickerdoodles . These maple snickerdoodles are pretty much just snickerdoodles that use maple syrup in the cookie dough for flavour and they are rolled in a maple sugar coating. Like most cookies the maple snickerdoodles were really easy to make, taking almost no time at all and they turned out great! They were nice and crispy on the edges and soft on the inside but they were full of amazing maple flavour all the way through. What a great way to satisfy a maple craving! Luckily I still have some more maple sugar to enjoy and experiment with.

I am a maple fanatic! One of my favorite ways to use it is in a glaze. I made a rustic apple pan tart and used a maple glaze

OH MY GOD. The glaze was to die for. Almost better than the tart itself! Thanks for sharing a maple recipe!

Snickerdoodle cookies are a staple in my house. I never thought about the idea of using maple syrup in them. Are they chewy? I’ve found there’s a fine line with the baking time with this type of cookie. One extra minute and they get hard. Is that the case with you?
Helene says
Every year I love this time of the year because I can eat maple sugar. It’s so good. I never made a recipe with it. Thanks for sharing this one.

I assume the recipe calls for 1/4 cup maple syrup? (quantity is missing) Use the rest of your sugar in making maple sugar pie. it’s fantastic
Brilynn says
I like the name snickerdoodle but have always been somewhat ambivalent about the actual cookie, I think I’d like it a million times better with maple!
giz says
Nice looking cookies Kevin – now tell me – that maple syrup bottle – was that the 50 ml size or the 100 ml size?
Deborah says
Great recipe!
Kevin says
ann: Yes, it is 1/4 cup. I have updated the recipe. Thanks for noticing.
giz: The bottle in the photo is the 50mL one.
Kevin says
Culinary Cory: Yep, baking cookies is a challenge. You have to pull them out at just the right time even if they do not seem as if they are quite done yet as they can continue to bake a bit with the residual heat. It is a skill that I need more practice at.
The first tray came out nice and soft and chewy so I left the second tray in a bit longer and they came out just crispy on the edges but they were still nice and soft and chewy on the inside.
Kevin says
Cheryl: I have only seen maple sugar in small specialty shops and at maple farms/stores. You should be able to order some from an online maple store if you cannot find any locally.
Karen says
I think everyone must like Snickerdoodles 🙂

My son would go crazy for these! He loves snickerdoodles and maple syrup. I’ve bought maple sugar a few times but end up using it on oatmeal instead of trying to bake with it.

Question: do you cream ALL of the butter and sugar together or do you reserve some for rolling the cookies in?
Emergent Teacher says
Question: do you cream ALL of the sugar with the butter or is that amount including some reserved to roll the cookies in? How much of each sugar do you cream with the butter? I'm so not a baker so I need help with this part!
Kevin says
Emergent Teacher: Cream 1/2 cup butter with 1 cup white sugar. The remaining 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup maple sugar are used to roll the cookie dough balls in. Enjoy!
