Bolognese Grilled Cheese

A grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with a tasty bolognese sauce, fresh basil and three kinds of melted cheese with extra parmesan cheese toasted onto the outside of the bread until golden brown and crisp!

April is National Grilled Cheese Month and I have a tasty bolognese grilled cheese to share with you! Whenever I make my favourite bolognese sauce (a tasty meat and tomato sauce) I like to make extra to use in recipes like this sandwich! This is a pretty normal grilled cheese with bread that is buttered, and filled with cheese before grilling it to golden brown, crispy perfection with the melted cheese just busting out into your mouth as you take a bite! The cheese used in this sandwich is a combination of provolone, mozzarella and parmesan, yum! In addition to the cheese inside the sandwich, I like press parmesan cheese onto the butter on the outside of the bread which melts and then grills until golden brown crispy and oh so good! It’s like that cheese that oozes out of the sandwich that browns on the side of the sandwich, you know, the best part of a grilled cheese, only on purpose instead of by accident! The final piece of this sandwich is a few leaves of fresh basil! This bolognese grilled cheese sandwich is the perfect way to celebrate

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 20 minutes Servings: 1

A grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with a tasty bolognese sauce, fresh basil and three kinds of melted cheese with extra parmesan cheese toasted onto the outside of the bread until golden brown and crisp!

ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 slices bread
  • 2 tablespoons parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup bolognese sauce (warm)
  • 2 leaves basil (optional)
directions
  1. Heat a pan over medium heat.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread and press 1/2 tablespoon parmesan into the butter before placing one slice, parmesan side down into the pan, top with half of the cheese, the bolognese sauce, basil, the remaining cheese and finally the other slice of bread with buttered parmesan side up.
  3. Grill until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted, about 2-4 minutes per side.
Option: Mix 1/3 cup cooked spaghetti noodles into the bolognese sauce!

    That was an excellent sandwich. I used provolone instead of mozzarella. I don”t want to eat dessert after.
