After I made the raspberry white chocolate lava cakes I could not help but make the dark chocolate version, I mean chocolate cake is a classic for a good reason! This recipe is super easy with only 5 ingredients, starting with a bar of dark chocolate and continuing with butter, sugar, flour and eggs! You pretty much just melt the chocolate into the butter, mix in the remaining ingredients, pour into ramekins and bake! It’s that easy! Impress that someone special in your life this Valentine’s, or any other occasion that you want to be extraordinary, with these dark chocolate lava cakes!

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes Servings: 4

Decadently light dark chocolate cakes with an oozy gooey molten lava centre!

ingredients
  • 3 1/2 ounces (100g) dark chocolate
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons flour (rice flour for gluten-free)
  • 4 eggs
directions
  1. Melt the chocolate into the butter, remove from heat, mix in the sugar, flour, and eggs.
  2. Divide the batter between 3-4 buttered ramekins and bake in a preheated 425F/220C oven until until the sides are lightly golden brown and the middle of the top jiggles just a little, about 10-13 minutes, before letting cool for 1 minute, running a knife around the outside, inverting and sliding out onto a plate to enjoy while still hot!
Tip: Prep the batter before dinner and bake them when ready!

    What about the raspberry sauce?
It's not mentioned in the recipe.

I think the raspberry sauce note was copy/pasted from the white chocolate raspberry lava cake recipe. Although I'm sure this would taste delicious with some raspberry!

Not being a "dark" chocolate fan at all can milk chocolate be used instead of the dark chocolate.

Judy Goldin: The raspberry sauce was a mistake that I have removed. It would be an amazing addition though! 🙂

Germaine Dubois: Milk chocolate also works well here!

Made these for Valentine's Day. Super easy and very good. I added a packet of Starbucks Via to the batter for a slight coffee flavour.

I don't happen to have a chocolate bar on hand. What if I use delicious Guittard semi-sweet chocolate baking chips? Will that alter my result?
