No holiday turkey dinner is complete without some homemade cranberry sauce and since it is so easy to make at home you really have no excuse not to! Although a basic cranberry sauce is amazing all by itself, you can change things up every once in a while by adding various flavoura and this time I went with a Mexican inspired flavour theme with spicy jalapeno peppers, lime and a hit of tequila. The heat provided by the jalapeno peppers goes well in the sweet and tart cranberry sauce making it little like a salsa and the lime juice really brightens it up!
Tequila and Lime Jalapeno Cranberry Sauce
A quick and easy homemade cranberry sauce made with fresh cranberries with some jalapeno heat and a hit of limee and tequila.
ingredients
- 4 cups (1 12 ounce bag) cranberries
- 1 cup water or orange juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 2 tablespoons tequila
directions
- Bring the cranberries, water, sugar and jalapeno to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the cranberries burst and the the sauce starts to thicken, about 10-15 minutes.
- Mix in the lime juice and tequila and remove from heat.

I wish I had seen your version earlier. I truly believe that it would beat “Ocean Spray” canned, hands down.

We eventually did try your recipe and my husband found it entirely too spicey. His digestive system isn’t what it used to be.
I loved it though. Thanks

Came across your blog & recipe through foodbuzz. I added in a little triple sec with the tequila for an extra kick. I'm looking forward to reading more great recipes!

Last year I used a chipotle in my cranberry sauce. That extra smoke layer was really good. Can't wait to try the tequila this year, or maybe Lara's triple sec idea.

I make a Cranberry Sauce similar to this but I use Hot Pepper Jelly. It adds a sweetness and you don't have to chop jalapeno's~

Oh! I so have to try this! With my mother-in-law coming I may want to increase the tequila a bit!! LOL or…just skip everything else and just use tequila. Just kidding. I do think I'll give this a try though. Thank you for sharing.

I wonder how this would taste with spiced rum instead….I'm really not much of a tequila drinker.

I always make my cranberry sauce with canned cranberry sauce, jalapenos and onions. I think I will throw in some lime juice and tequila this year and see what happens. Thanks for the idea!

This has been our go to cranberry sauce for the last few years. How far in advance could you make this and has anyone had success with freezing it!
kevin says
This will store in the fridge for a few days and it freezes well!
Debi says
Hi Kevin – thank you for your recipes! We have tried many and are now part of our regular rotation. Even while out camping! Question: Do you ever do any water bath canning? Looking at your Tequila and Lime Jalapeno Cranberry Sauce and thinking about canning it.
Debi says
Follow up: I did water bath can this cranberry sauce in 125 ml jars and they turned out excellent! Easy to do with a great shelf life – no freezing. Also, makes for a nice little gift to share with friends.

This is a very tasty and easy to make recipe and I will never serve ordinary cranberry sauce again. So easy to throw together and then water bath can them in 125 ml jars. Shared them with friends this past Canadian Thanksgiving. Will for sure be doing this every year for Christmas & Thanksgiving!
