I am a big fan of the onion gratins! There is just something magical about the sweet and pungent onions when combined with savoury and creamy melted cheese! My favourite version, up until recently, has been asiago roasted onions but these sour cream and cheddar roasted onions are giving them a run for their money, so to say. Onions are sliced i7nto 1/4 inch thick slices, placed in a pan, covered in a mixture of sour cream and cheddar cheese and baked until the onions are tender and the cheese has melted. This is one of the easiest side dishes around with almost no prep work and once you place them in the oven you just need to wait for them to finish baking! These sour cream and cheddar onions are the perfect side dish for any meal!

I wonder how this would work with frozen pearl onions? I may have to give it a try!
That would be good!
We made this for Thanksgiving and it was delicious. Going to use leftovers on a grilled cheese or other sandwich. If you love onions, make this.
I’m glad you like it! Great idea to use the leftovers in a grilled cheese!
Kevin, I made these onions recently as a side dish with T-Bone Steaks and they were awesome! My husband is still taking about them and now wants them all the time. He actually said he prefers this dish to onion rings.
The best part is that this was one of the easiest side dishes ever. I’m already planning on making them next Christmas with the prime rib, But, of course, I’ll be making them a lot more between now and then! Thanks so much for another great recipe! Happy New Year!!
Kevin, this is absolutely delicious. I made it to serve with steak and ultimately, the steak was pretty much ignored as I opted for a double serving of this dish. Well done!
