Greek Salad (Horiatiki Salata)

[heart_this] · Aug 23, 2018 · 16 Comments

Greek Salad

A Greek salad with tomatoes, cucumber, onion, olives, feta and Greek dressing.

This is a more traditional Greek salad, one without lettuce, that typically consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, olives, feta, olive oil, oregano and sometime a splash of red wine vinegar. This salad is super easy to make where you basically just need to slice the veggies and you are good to go! The feta is commonly served as a big slab on top of the salad but you can also serve it with the feta crumbled. This salad makes for a great side or even a light meal and it’s perfect in the summer with all of the field ripened veggies around!

I agree with you on the oil to vinegar ratio (in fact sometimes I add more vinegar than oil) I like my dressing really vinegary. But I don’t do that when I am cooking for guests or the kids…

On a salad that looks that good I would probably just drizzle a bit of both over the top – like the Spanish do. And I agree with the ratio, too.
    Beautiful photo!

Greek Salad is my favourite salad of all time for the lack of lettuce (not a fan of lettuce at all)also and could eat it on a daily basis. I'm so glad that I found your blog and am now a huge fan. I love all your recipes. Thanks for sharing your love of food.

IMO it needs tons of oil and vinegar. Let it stand for a bit before serving it, so you get a nice mix of vegetable juices + oil/vinegar at the bottom. Then dip some bread in that. Absolute perfection.

This is a delicious & healthy Classic. Greek "Horiatiki" does not include lettuce. This is exactly how I make ours with plenty of olive oil & let it sit awhile. Then, once the yummy veggies start disappearing:) dipping fresh bread into the olive oil & tomato juices is the best part of enjoying Greek Salad:)

Thanks for re-posting this favorite classic salad of mine. I adore anchovies and always add them at home since restaurants are now removing them as an ingredient due to their expense. They make all the difference in my opinion. I cannot wait to try your dressing since I don’t like any of the branded bottled varieties. Thank you again !

My garden is bursting with cherry tomatoes and I see some cucumbers in my neighbour’s garden, I’m going to steal some and make this today! It’s such a simple but beautiful salad.

This salad was so yummy! I zoodled an English cucumber and a large zucchini (at my son’s request) instead of chopping them. Added cooked chicken chunks and half an avocado to the salad with the rest of the ingredients and it was amazing! The dressing recipe was perfect. Thanks Kevin. Just what we were looking for. ( Next time I’m cutting the veggies in bite size chunks though. I tried to get the zoodles cut off into manageable noodles but I needed a third hand and failed epicly!)
