Recently I made a jalapeno popper dip that I really enjoyed and I was craving more. This time though I was thinking that making actual jalapeno poppers was the way to go. In theory jalapeno poppers sound pretty easy; just stuff some jalapenos with cheese, bread them and fry them. I have had jalapeno poppers before where the jalapenos were still crispy and barely even cooked and I wanted mine to be soft and fully cooked so I decided to roast them up a bit first. After roasting the jalapenos I removed the loose skin to ensure that it did not interfere with the texture of the poppers. The soft roasted jalapenos were much more difficult to work with but it was well worth the extra effort. The jalapeno poppers turned out great! They were nice and crispy and golden brown on the outside and soft and warm and gooey on the inside with just the right amount of chili heat! I used a combination of cream cheese and cheddar cheese stuffing in the jalapeno poppers and the cheese melted nicely when the poppers were fried. Roasting the jalapeno peppers was the way to go as it added a ton of flavour to the poppers. The only problem was that the poppers disappeared much to quickly and now I need to make some more.
Jalapeno Poppers
Homemade jalapeno poppers, tender jalapeno peppers stuffed with cheese, coated in breadcrumbs and fried until golden brown and crispy!

- Place in a bowl sealed with plastic wrap and let cool.
- Squeeze the skins off of the peppers.
- Slice a slit down one side of the pepper and scoop out the seeds.
- Mix the cream cheese and cheddar cheese in a bowl.

I like the idea of roasting the peppers first! Yum!
OMG – can i have some? lol
Is it wrong to crave these for breakfast this morning?
I’ve never thought to roast the peppers first – what a great idea!
It’s hard to find a good popper. I am so fussy when it comes to these as I want them fresh.
These look really good Kevin!
Kevin, holy smokes these look SOOO good!!! You’re amazing, you never fail to amaze me with your dishes!
Jenifer
Nice call on the roasting. Creates such a great flavor. My favorite way though is still bacon wrapped, cream cheese stuffed, and smoked jalapenos. However, jalapeno poppers are one of my favorite bar foods.
I want to make these in the summer, when my veggies are up – thanks for the tip about pre-roasting and skinning.
Scrumptious! These looks extremely good!
Cheers,
Rosa
These and the breaded, fried zucchini sticks both look amazing and so crunchy and delicious! These sound extra good filled with cheese.
Oooh yum – I’m growing some jalapeno peppers!! When they are big enough I’ll give those a go.
Thanks for sharing Kevin.
I used to eat these all the time in a nearby restaurant–love them! I have to see if I can’t figure out a way to make some that fit my current dietary restrictions!
The only time I get a treat like this is when I go to a restaurant. Never thought of making this at home. You really encourage me to do so.
Cheers,
elra
This is a really nice idea Kevin. Roasting peppers always pays off and I can see why this came out well. I will give this a try.

Jalapeño, not jalapeno. Totally different sound without the “ñ”.
why are these things so addictive?
You made tiny chile rellenos! I love it! When I say jalapeno, I say it with the squiggly thing over the ‘n’ but I don’t know how to type the squiggly thing over the ‘n’, so don’t let Anon’s comment bother you 🙂
Pop, pop, pop: I would have a good deal of trouble keeping myself from gobbling the entire batch up! Looks fantastic!
They sound spicy and delicious!
I can see why they disappeared so quickly – they look super tasty! I love that you roasted them too!
WOW! I guess that the internet stirs up lots of ideas, such as ‘Texas-style jalapeno poppers’.
I mean I have been preparing delicious jalapeno poppers since I was knee-high to a grasshopper back in Texas (that’s like OVER 50 years, since I am 66 years old).
Then — surprise, SURPRISE, in the last week alone — a dozen or so posts about how “to do” jalapeno poppers.
Okay, that’s cool. Enjoy good food, so long as you do NOT claim it as your own.
But, I guess that some of us ‘old-timers’ don’t need instructions.
Woooow, I love this one! I wanna try it at home 😀
These look wonderfully fried and spicy, two very tasty attributes.
those look amazing! Can’t wait to try these – and no one in my family likes jalapenos, so they will be all mine!
These are so tempting, they look fabulous.
whhhaooo..I feel sweat beads on my brows just looking at these spicy little suckers!!
OK, Kevin. YOu’ve officially stolen this chile-head’s heart. I’ll bet those roasted peppers were twice as good as the original. YUM.
Oh my…those look delicious!
Yum! I love the idea of roasting them first. Great way to intensify the flavor.
They look great. I looked at how you made them and it reminded of a grilled cheese I hears about that added chopped scallions to the cheese. That might be an extra touch. LOVE that you roasted them first.
They look great..so nice and crispy brown!
Looks good! I love jalapeno so much. Can’t find them in Singapore but I bought some from Perth recently… and now I am trying to grow the seeds.
I’m a big believer in roasting vegetables…and what a good idea to roast these first. Yum!
My sis loves poppers, I will definately tell her this recipe
this looks very spicy!
Love this! And just a simple dipping sauce would work fantastically!
Simply perfect. I can taste them from here.
Roasting the jalapenos sounds great! I’ve been wanting to try stuffed jalapenos on the grill too.
Ooooh … I can totally understand why these would disappear quickly … they look terrific! I love poppers and this version with the skin removed. YUM!
These are so yummy!
Oh wow. These look awesome!!! And I loveee cooking with panko. YUM!
Sues
I love Jalepeno Poppers, but would never even think of trying to make them myself. However, after reading your post today. I may give it a try. The photo is beautiful and delicious!
Oh these look so good Kevin and I’d have never thought to roast the jalapeno peppers first. Great recipe.
Certainly one of my favorite appetizers. They look great Kevin.
SMART THINKING! I tried making them years ago, and found the same problem – the peppers themselves just weren’t cooked enough and were way too firm. I’ll definitely have to try your technique this summer, as the plants are overloaded with jalapenos! Thanks!
That looks good, and nice presentation Kevin!
Please don’t be put off by my husband’s rudeness. Things haven’t been going his way recently.
Our health problems prevent us from making poppers any more but when we were younger, we loved them.
I like how they look like little fried mice!
One of my favorite starters!! These look great!
these are one of my favorite snacks! I don’t think I’d try and make them at home though. I always buy them out.
ooooh i adore jalapeno poppers! these are supercute!
those look great! I love jalepeno poppers!
Roasted peppers? They look so yummie!
Would it be beyond gluttonous to dip these poppers in that popper dip you made not too long ago? 🙂
I love jalapeno poppers. We go to Jack in the Box just to have these 🙂 Thanks for posting the recipe.
These look great – very professional!
ohh man those look good!
These look amazing, I wonder if you can bake them instead of fry them?
These look amazing. Puts the store bought ones to shame.
Killing me softly with poppers! This is one of my favorite snacks ever…thanks for posting the recipe 🙂
I’ve always wanted to know how to make these! My dad loves them, now I can make them for him!
My mouth is watering! When I was in high school, it was a teeny tiny town. The only choices for food were McDonald's, Subway, & Sonic. My friends and I would go to Sonic, and I'd always get their jalapeno poppers! My fast food days are now LONG behind me. I bet your homemade ones are a million times tastier! Maybe I'll try these!
These look great. I loved the flavor of my stuffed jalapenos which were roasted…I can so see roasting first and then frying making some awesome poppers!
Oh wow. What a neat idea. I’ll probably add some Gorgonzola to the cream cheese. I just planted my green peppers. Can’t wait for the summer season to try out this recipe. Thanks for sharing!
They look super awesome!
These look fantastic! So much better than the cruddy, mass produced ones in the frozen food section.
Jalapeno poppers are addictive. I bet the panko crumbs made them extra crunchy.
Roasted Jalapenos!!!Seems to be a new and creative dish.
ROASTING the peppers before!!! ahhh!!! Genius! because im a bacon whore, i would add that to the cream cheese mixture =) thanks for sharing!
I've made poppers before and they are fab! Although, I didn't roat my peppers, next time I will try roasting before hand! Thanks! Also, a bit of advice, the first time I made these (which also was the first time) my hands burned for hours after I made these because the oils from the raw peppers permeated my skin. Wear gloves when preparing these treats!! Also, I baked mine and they were just as wonderful!
Hi Kevin
Great idea, always have these cold, baked sounds very good.
Have been sending link to your wonderfcul food to lots of my friends.
Have a great friday and weekend.
Happy cooking.
Keep warm.
Love,
Herrad

I like to leave the skins on until after I stuff them then remove the skins, they come off a bit easier and make it easy to stuff as well… I do this with my stuffed chicken chili relenos too..
Those look really good.
I love it 😀
These may look great, but in reality are extremely hot. Your lips will burn, your tongue will ignite on fire and you will not be able to eat more than one bite. I usually love spicy foods, but could not handle these. Too hot to handle.
