Jalapeno Popper Dip

Jalapeno Popper Dip

A hot cheesy dip inspired by the flavours of jalapeno peppers with a crunchy panko bread crumb topping.

Follow Me on Pinterest

I had been coming across this recipe for jalapeno popper dip on sites like Big Red Kitchen for a while and I had just been itching to try it. I really like jalapeno poppers and this dip has all of the elements that make jalapeno poppers so good, from the jalapenos to the cream cheese and cheddar cheese to the crunchy bread crumb crust. With the temex kick that I have been on lately it was the perfect time to try this dip out. The jalapeno popper dip was easy to make and the results were great! I increased the amount of jalapenos and added some fresh jalapenos for even more jalapeno flavour and heat. The dip was nice and warm and gooey and oh so tasty! I really enjoyed the spicy cheesy dip and its crunchy topping and I will definitely be making it again. I served the jalapeno popper dip with lime tortilla chips for dipping.

Jalapeno Popper Dip

Jalapeno Popper Dip

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Total Time: 30 minutes Servings: 4

A hot cheesy dip inspired by the flavours of jalapeno peppers with a crunchy panko bread crumb topping.

ingredients
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan), grated
  • 1 (4 ounce) can sliced jalapenos (pickled), drained
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan), grated
directions
  1. Mix the cream cheese, mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, parmigiano reggiano and jalapenos in a bowl and pour into a baking dish.
  2. Mix the panko bread crumbs and parmigiano reggiano and sprinkle over the dip.
  3. Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until the sides are bubbling and the cheese cheese has melted and turned golden brown on top, about 20 minutes.
Slow Cooker: Mix everything except the panko, place it in the slow cooker and cook until the cheese is nice and melted about 1-2 hours on high or 2-4 hours on low. Toast the panko and sprinkle it on top just before serving.
Tip: Add crumbled bacon for the bacon wrapped jalapeno popper version!

    Kevin,

Do you think this would work with fresh jalapenos?

I love the flavor of peppers, but I think I’d rather use fresh so I can remove the seeds. That way, I’ll get more flavor, but less heat.

    Yes/no/maybe?

I love Chipotles as well – and I’ve had a hard time getting the lime/cilantro rice just right – but like you, I’ve just added some lime juice and fresh chopped cilantro (and maybe a little olive oil to try and spread the flavors a little more uniformly?).

And now this popper dip? YUM! I just planted seeds for two different green varieties of jalapenos PLUS purple jalapenos for this summers garden! I’m sure I’ll be making this stuff with homegrown spice this summer…

Thanks for all the great entries!

I made this last night to bring to a New Year's Eve party. Everyone loved it and it pretty much disappeared. I did not put in the optional pepper or put on bread crumbs. I added a tiny pinch of red pepper flakes and some salt and pepper. Yum. It was actually quite mild and very flavorful. The lime tortilla chips also went very well. Thanks for the recipe!

This dip is so friggin good. Make some sliders and dollop a spoonful of this stuff on the burgers. I suggest slipping on a 2nd pair of undies before giving this a whirl because it's so good you'll probably crap yourself. worth it.

I made a few revisions to this great dip. I used sour cream instead of mayo (I'm not a huge mayo fan, so I went with sour cream) and I chopped the jalapeno slices. I chopped the slices because I want there to be jalapenos in every bite, and I found that using whole slices, you didn't get jalapenos with every scoop. I will be bringing this to a superbowl party next month! great stuff!

    Hey there Kevin,
Just wanted to say thanks so much for all the delicious recipes. I have followed your blog for quite some time and every time you post something new it looks positively mouth-watering. I made this dip along with the cheesy bean dip yesterday for the Jets/Colts game and this one definitely came out on top! The only thing I changed was to mix a little olive oil with the panko/parm topping to ensure it got nice and golden.
I'll be making this recipe for years to come. Thank a million!

I've been wanting to make this for over a year now. I finally made it last night and it was super, super yummy! I think that the Panko bread crumb topping makes it like real poppers, but without the fuss of stuffing and frying them.
I will definitely make it again. The only thing I will change is to chop the pickled jalapenos.

I first came across your blog two months ago. I've made this dip for three gatherings and it's always a hit! I did not have cheddar to add to the batch I made last night, so I subbed pepper jack. For a little sweetness and smokiness, I also added half of a bell pepper I had previously roasted on the grill; next time I will roast the jalapenos too. And I looove the idea of smearing some of this on a burger. :p

My only change was that I forgot about putting the topping on until it was done cooking, so I added it and put it under the broiler for a minute to brown…..except that I forgot that it was in there and completely charred the topping!

I ended up just scraping it off and serving as it was – still amazing!! Thanks so much for sharing — this will certainly be on regular rotation!

    I'd say 5 strips bacon!
How many calories would you say I figured about 408 for 1/3 Cup serving

I double this every time I make it. I am no longer permitted to bring anything else to any neighborhood gathering. The dish is licked clean on every occasion. Two of my teens love it, the 20-something adult children check in with their parents to see if I am coming with dip in hand when a gathering is scheduled and it has become neighborhood lore know as Crack Dip (in a totally non-offensive-oh-my-gosh-i-know-i-should-stop-eating-this-but-i-can't kind of way). I make it with fresh jalepenos only and lowfat, reduced fat cheeses. I make a mash of tortilla chips and grated parm for the top because I am gluten free. It's just to die for.

I don't know if you still read comments from your old posts, but I have been making this for over 3 years, and it is still my number one requested "pitch-in" dish to bring. Thank you for posting it so long ago!

Patricia D.: I'm so glad that you like it! This is definitely still one of my favourite dips!

Definitely a requested dip. This is not something you can make a small amount of, even for yourself. I read this a few years back and picked up this.

I am always requested to bring this dip to every party I go to! The only things I do different is use fresh jalapeños ( I take the seeds out) and add mild green chilies. I always have to double, as it goes fast! Thanks for posting!

If you still read comments on your old posts, I’d appreciate some advice. I’m so sure this will be a hit that I want to double the recipe. I am in temporary quarters with a semi-equipped kitchen, and will need to buy a baking dish. What size do you recommend for double the recipe? Thanks!

If you are making double the recipe, an 8x8x2 inch pan, or an 8 inch diameter circular pan would be perfect! Enjoy!
