The Super Bowl is quickly approaching and that means that it is time to start dusting off some recipes for snacking! I am a big fan of hot melted cheese dips and I had an idea for a new one, a bacon double cheese burger dip that has all of the flavours of a bacon double cheese burger. Beef is the main part of a burger so I started out there and I added some ingredients that I commonly add to burgers including onions, garlic and worcestershire sauce. Next up was the bacon and then the cheese and I included both cheddar for the flavour and mozzarella for the stringy melted goodness. I went with the standard hot melted cheese dip ingredients including the cream cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream to form the base of the dip. One final touch was the addition of ketchup as it is a pretty standard condiment used in burgers. All of the ingredients are then mixed together and baked until the cheeses all melt and start to brown and get all bubbly.
If you cannot live without lettuce and tomatoes in your burgers then topping the hot bacon double cheese burger dip with freshly diced juicy tomatoes and sliced crisp lettuce is the way to go and I highly recommend that you try it!
This bacon double cheese burger dip goes great on toasted baguette slices or with tortilla chips for your dipping pleasure.
Whether at home watching the big game or out or tailgating this dip would make an excellent addition to your snacking delights!
Bacon Double Cheese Burger Dip
A hot cheesy baked dip with all of the flavours of a bacon double cheese burger that makes for some great game day snacking!
ingredients
- 6 strips bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
directions
- Cook the bacon in the pan until crispy and set aside to drain on a paper towel.
- Cook the ground beef and onion in the pan, over medium heat, breaking the beef apart as it cooks, before draining any excess grease.
- Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
- Mix the beef and onions, bacon, cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, mozzarella, cheddar, worcestershire sauce, mustard, and ketchup, and pour it into a baking dish.
- Bake in a preheated 350F/180C oven until the top starts turning a light golden brown and the sides are bubbling, about 20-30 minutes.

I love how you are running with the junk food dip theme. This looks the best yet, but personally I would have to get pickles in there.
Shreela says
I'm going to make this, and also dice up some pickles to put on the side, since I'm not sure if they'll go with it (maybe might clash with the bacon). Of course I'll be topping with lettuce and tomato, thanks!

So I just made this dip, and I think between the cream cheese and the sour cream it just becomes a bit over powering. I would say maybe substitute the sour cream with your favorite version of milk. It had too much of a paste consistency anyway that also was a bit of a turn off. Other than that the concept and the rest of the ingredients are right on par. Hmmm. I wonder if you could could do a half of milk and a half of Campbells soup, cream of mushroom. Just a thought.
taty678 says
So what do you do with the onion and garlic mixture?
Alexandra says
I will try this dish for the Super Bowl potluck I am going to. The photographs on your blog are just amazing. I get so hungry just looking at the pictures!

Hi…. Love your recipes but have one problem I am allergic to Mayo/Salad dressing. Can I either double the sour cream or add maybe plain greek yogurt as a substitute? Thanks

Julia: One of or a combination of sour cream or Greek yogurt would work as a substitute for the mayo.

Laura: You can definitely make this in a crockpot!

Sheila Brown says
I will be making this this weekend. I'm glad this can be made w/o mayo and extra sour cream. I like it on sandwiches but not in dips.
Sheila Brown says
I am so making this this weekend. I,m glad that I can use extra sour cream instead of mayo. I like it lightly on a sandwich, but not in dips. I may have to triple the ingredients because I have hungry people in my house. 🙂

Jeanne says
I low-carb it, and this recipe is low-carb, sans the dippers. Wondering what I can use to dip into this deliciousness that isn't high carb… Any suggestions out there? I'd LOVE to do this recipe!
Kevin says
Jeanne: Low carb crackers would be good with this dip.
Mina says
Hey Kevin, you might have already answered this above somewhere, but I was just wondering if you knew how much time this would take to heat up if you were to assemble the cooked items in a crockpot. Potluck season is upon us! I'm thinking the guys at work wil love this recipe! 🙂
Thanks!
Kevin says
Mina: It should not take more than 30-60 minutes to get it hot and melt the cheese on high or 1 1/2 – 2 hours on low in a crockpot. Enjoy!
Mina says
Awesome! Thank you. 🙂
Sarah Zaremba says

Hey Kevin, a friend of mine is getting married next weekend, she requested this dip for her reception. I need to make approx enough to fill two half size buffet pans (total of 8qts), could you tell me about how many times to multiply the ingredients of this dip. Or maybe the yield of the recipe above. I see it serves 4plus, but didn't see the total yield. Thanks so much!
