Apple, Cheddar and Bacon Fritters in Caramel Sauce

Apple, Cheddar and Bacon Fritters in Caramel Sauce

Sweet and savoury apple and cheddar fritters that go great topped with caramel sauce and crumbled bacon.

I always enjoy making fritters out of different fruits and vegetables and I recently realized that I had not shared my recipe for the classic fritters, apple fritters! I have really been into apples lately so as soon as I had the idea of apple fritters they quickly made it to my meal plan! Although basic apple fritters are amazing all by themselves I like to kick them up a bit by adding cheddar cheese and since bacon also goes so well with this combo I like to throw some in as well. These apple fritters are super easy to make, you pretty much just need to shred the apples and cheese, squeeze and drain the shredded apple, mix everything up and then fry them in a pan. The apples, bacon and cheddar combo makes for an amazing blend of sweet and savoury in these fritters that are nice and crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside! I like to snack on these apple and cheddar fritters just as they are but they are also absolutely divine when topped with caramel sauce.

These look amazing. I too love the apples and cheddar combo and I feel that it is underutilized, especially in the fall, when apples are SO SO GOOD. I will definitely be trying these out soon.

Just made these and they were amazing! Used your caramel sauce (very easy, very good) and it totally made the fritters! It's a keeper, thanks for a great recipe!

Very creative but the flavors were a little too heavy-handed for me. I would substitute dijon for Bavarian sweet mustard or coarse-ground mustard, remove the cinnamon, and NOT mix the bacon in with the apples. I know the original recipe has it sprinkled on top but I thought it would be easier to eat mixed in. Unfortunately the bacon overwhelms the flavor of the apples. Great way to use up dry baking apples though; thanks for breakfast, Kevin.
