Pepperoni Pizza Pasta

Pepperoni Pizza Pasta

An easy to make one-pan pasta inspired by pizza with beef, bacon, pepperoni, and mushrooms in a tomato sauce all topped with plenty of melted cheese.

Pasta is a staple meal around here and this pizza inspired version can be made in one pan! Pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms are one of my favourite pizza topping combinations and they are tasty in pasta! This dish starts out by cooking the meats, before adding the pasta, pizza sauce and broth and cooking until the pasta is tender. I like to melt half of the cheese right into the pasta sauce and then sprinkling the other half on top, along with some pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms, before letting it melt and look like the top of a pizza! This one-pan pizza pasta is easy to make, the perfect meal for a busy weeknight, and it’s easy to use your favourite pizza toppings!

An easy to make one-pan pasta inspired by pizza with beef, bacon, pepperoni, and mushrooms in a tomato sauce all topped with plenty of melted cheese.

ingredients
  • 4 ounces of bacon, sliced
  • 4 ounces of pepperoni, sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pound ground beef (or italian sausage)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (or oregano)
  • 2 cups pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 8 ounces pasta (such as shells) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
directions
  1. Cook the bacon in a large pan before setting aside on paper towels to drain.
  2. Cook the pepperoni in the bacon grease in the same pan before setting aside.
  3. Cook the mushrooms in the remaining grease before setting aside.
  4. Cook the beef and onion in the same pan, breaking the beef apart as it cooks, until cooked through, before draining off any excess grease.
  5. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
  6. Add the bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms, Italian seasoning, pizza sauce, broth and pasta, mix, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer, covered, until the pasta is cooked al-detnte, about 7 minutes.*
  7. Reduce the heat, mix in half of the cheese and let it melt.
  8. Sprinkle on the remaining cheese, cover and let the cheese melt.
Option: Reserve some of the bacon, pepperoni, and mushrooms to sprinkle on top of the cheese in step 8.
Option: Add red pepper flakes for some heat.
Option: Add ground fennel seeds.
Option: Add smoked paprika.
Option: Use your favourite pizza toppings!
Option: After sprinkling the cheese and extra topping on top of the pasta in step 8, broil until the cheese has melted.

We used to have this at a little restaurant near Dallas, TX. It was named Pizza-getti and they served pizza spaghetti called pizza-getti. Delicious. TY for your recipe and some fond memories.
