Slow Cooker Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Super easy, creamy mashed sweet potatoes made in the slow cooker!

In the fall and winter I often enjoy using sweet potatoes for sides for meals, especially during the holidays! Normally I cook the sweet potatoes on the stove but stove time and space is often limited for a large meal so doing something in the slow cooker is nice, not to mention easy! Mashed sweet potatoes work really well in the slow cooker, you simply place the peeled and diced sweet potatoes into the slow cooker and cook until tender before adding your favourite mashed potato ingredients like butter and milk and mashing them! It’s that easy! You can mash them by hand or with a mixer or food processor.
Of course that’s just the basic mashed sweet potatoes and you can kick things up by adding extra flavours like cinnamon, maple, and/or brown sugar for sweet variations or garlic, cheese, etc for savoury versions.

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 2 hours Total Time: 2 hours 10 minutes Servings: 6

Super easy, creamy mashed sweet potatoes made in the slow cooker!

ingredients
  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-2 inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • milk to taste
directions
  1. Cook the sweet potatoes in the slow cooker until tender, about 2-3 hours on high or 4-6 hours on low.
  2. Mash and mix in the butter and enough milk to get to the desired consistency.
Option: Add a pinch cinnamon!
Option: Add a pinch nutmeg!
Option: Add a pinch ginger!
Option: Add brown sugar to taste!
Option: Add maple syrup to taste!
Option: Top with 1/3 cup chopped pecans!
Option: Add 3 whole cloves garlic to the slow cooker with the sweet potatoes!
Option: Add 1 tablespoon miso paste!
Option: Add 1/4 cup grated parmesan!
Option: Replace the milk with cream or sour cream.
Tip: You can ‘mash’ with a mixer or a food processor if you wish!
