BBQ Chicken Pizza Sloppy Joes

Chicken sloppy joes with sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, juicy pineapple and spicy banana peppers!

BBQ chicken is one of my pizza flavours and it makes for some tasty sloppy joes as well! The usual sloppy joe ground beef is replaced with ground chicken and since the tomato sauce in the pizza is replaced with BBQ sauce, BBQ sauce is used instead of sloppy joe sauce. The other toppings on the pizza include red onions, pineapple and hot/banana peppers which are included in these sloppy joes. I like to top these BBQ chicken sloppy joes off with shredded mozzarella and pickled onions! Whether you are looking for a quick and tasty weeknight meal or a tasty snack to enjoy while watching the game, these sloppy joes are sure to please!

BBQ Chicken Pizza Sloppy Joes

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Total Time: 30 minutes Servings: 4

Chicken sloppy joes with sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, juicy pineapple and spicy banana peppers!

ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated/minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup pineapple, diced
  • 1/4 cup pickled hot/banana peppers, sliced
  • 4 buns (optionally toasted) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
directions
  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet, add the chicken, onions and bell pepper and cook, breaking the chicken apart as it cooks, until cooked through, about 10 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
  3. Add the broth mixed with the cornstarch, and simmer until it thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Mix in the BBQ sauce, pineapple and hot peppers and cook for a minute.
  5. Divide the BBQ chicken mixture between the buns and enjoy!
Option: Garnish with shredded Monterey jack or mozzarella cheese.
Option: Garnish with sliced onions or pickled onions!
Option: Garnish with your favourite sandwich fillers!
Option: Add bacon!
Option: Use turkey, pork or beef instead of chicken.
