Jalapeno Popper Sloppy Joes

Jalapeno popper flavoured sloppy joes filled with cheddar cheese, cream cheese and jalapenos! Yum!

Although a little messy, sloppy joes are a fabulous game day food! As amazing as sloppy joes are, they get even better when you combine them with the flavours of jalapeno poppers! This recipe starts out with basic sloppy joes with the addition of jalapenos, cream cheese and cheddar cheese! I often like to make bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers and so I add bacon to the sloppy joes. Jalapeno poppers are often coated with crispy breadcrumbs and you can fill the sandwiches with crumbled tortilla chips! Any way you serve these jalapeno popper sloppy joes they are the perfect game day food, or busy weeknight meal!

Jalapeno popper flavoured sloppy joes filled with cheddar cheese, cream cheese and jalapenos! Yum!

ingredients
  • 6 strips bacon, cut into 1/2 inch pieces (optional)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 jalapenos, sliced or diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning (or salt and pepper to taste)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, warmed
  • 4 buns (gluten-free for gluten-free)
directions
  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet before setting aside on paper towels and draining off the bacon grease from the pan.
  2. Add the beef and onions to the pan, cook over medium-high heat, breaking the beef up as it cooks, and drain any excess grease from the pan.
  3. Add the jalapeno and garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
  4. Add the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, paprika, and steak seasoning and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add the cheddar and cream cheese and let them melt into the sauce before mixing in the bacon.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches and enjoy!
Note: You can control the heat in this recipe through the jalapenos! Add more if you want it hotter and use less if you want it milder.
Option: Add crumbled tortilla chips or corn chips, etc. for crunch!

This looks outstanding. Similar to some jalapeno-bourbon mini-burgers. I think we will do this and maybe add
a little bourbon to the mix.

Fixed your Jalapeño Popper Sloppy Joes for tonight’s dinner and was a hit – although milder than expected. You never know about those jalapeños! Son made 2 comments: A- could eat this every week! and, B- how about L/Os for breakfast tacos in the morning? Works for me!
