Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip

This hot spinach and artichoke dip is an amazing appetizer that will disappear quickly and leave you craving for more!

Follow Me on Pinterest

It seems that I may be a little addicted to hot cheesy dips. Last week I made a hot sweet onion dip and while I was looking for recipes for it I came across some recipes for hot spinach and artichoke dip. This new dip filled with cheese, cream cheese and mayonnaise sounded so good that I had to try it right away. But, with both spinach and artichokes in it, it is just a little bit healthier. 😉 One of the things that I liked about this recipe was that I would get to use artichokes again and I had been looking forward to doing so. The last time I used fresh artichokes and this time I got to try canned ones. This dip is super easy to make; you just mix all of the ingredients and bake until bubbling and golden brown on top. The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing! It was warm and cheesy and full of flavour! The big chunks of artichokes were nice and went well with the spinach in the dip. The chili sauce that I added left a nice after taste of heat that I enjoyed. I served the dip with some whole grain crackers.

Hmmm…I wonder if there is a support group for this addiction? And, if there is, do you think they avoid dip on the snack table?

Kidding, of course! Who could resist a dip that looks this perfectly golden? Nice work.

Love your blog by the way. I made a spinach and artichoke dip last Saturday. It was an Emeril recipe from foodnetwork.com. I think more of my friends liked it more than I did. The base was a blond roux (flour and canola oil)with milk, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese (shredded). I will try your recipe for the dip next.

I recently made a dip just like this but I actually drained the artichokes, tossed them with some olive oil, salt & pepper, and then roasted them for 20 minutes before chopping them and putting them into the dip. It added a layer of flavor. Your pictures are amazing!

this sounds delicious i too seem to love hot melted cheese
this Tuscan cheese dip is right up there
    8oz cream cheese
    8 oz mozzarella shredded
    1 T garlic minced
    1/2 tsp garlic salt
    1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp hot sauce or to taste
Melting in the microwave til hot and creamy sticks too much in a pan on stove.

you can leave it at that and cut up a baguette cut into rounds drizzled with olive oil and baked for 5 min at 400
But it is even exceptionally better with tomato.

so 1 14oz can tomato petite diced ( drained)
    2 tsp sea salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    1 tsp oregano
    1 tsp basil
    1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
mix together above and then place and mesh colander to drain for 15 minutes then make following
    1/4 c balsamic reduction
poor reduction over tomatoes. and serve with bread and cheese dip.. though i tend not to always make the tomato part it is excellent together..

Jennifer: You could turn the oven to broil for a few minutes to get a nice and golden brown top. As suggested above, I was also thinking of topping it with a mixture of parmigiano reggiano and panko bread crumbs next time for an even crispier topping.

I love hot spinach and artichoke dip! My version uses spinach, artichoke hearts, mayonnaise, shredded parmesean and mozzarella, crushed garlic, a squeeze of lemon juice, and black pepper and cayenne pepper to taste. Mix everything together and bake at 350F until bubbly. Great with tortilla or lightly salted pita chips, or as a spread on slices of french bread. So yummy!

I've been in love with the dip since I first had it in university at Milestones. I've bought pre-made versions from Loblaws, but they never tasted the same. I've never eaten artichokes before until a few months ago at a friend's dinner party. And I've still never cooked artichokes, but will do so now that I have this recipe (though I already see my waistline increasing). I'll just pretend it's healthy with the artichoke and spinach.

    Thanks for the recipe!

WOW!!! I made this for my fiance's family reunion…over 80 italian relatives of his. I made this recipe x6, and mixed all the ingredients in a crockpot a few hours before we left & let it cook. I added a just a few more pinches of salt & used a little extra sriracha as the heat factor. the perfect amount of heat to please even the most sensitive palate. i didn't have panko on hand, so i just covered the top with extra cheese!! EVERYONE was asking who made it & the x6 recipe crockpot looked like it was licked clean within 20 minutes! I kept a little extra cup of it in my fridge…& it's fabulous even cold!!! thanks so much for the recipe! 😀

I made this to take to Thanksgiving dinner. I had never tried anything with artichokes before, and was worried that it would not be very good. But surprisingly it was a huge hit! They actually asked me to make it for Christmas dinner too!

This looks so good, I just popped it into the oven and will render my verdict shortly. Thank you so much for inspiring me to try not just one but two recipes – tomorrow, it's the puff pastry with asparagus and gruyere! Except I couldn't find gruyere so am using smoked gouda.

    Thanks!

I made this for dinner tonight and it is SO good. I left out the spinach just cuz I'm lazy, and used reduced fat on most of the other ingredients. I had it with crostini.

It's my new go-to for artichoke dip. Thank you so much for sharing it. My old one was good, but pretty greasy. This one is smooth, creamy, but not so heavy that it's kind of a bummer. This one is great!

I think I'll try your corn one next.

I added more cheese to the top and some bread crumbs and had to broil it a few minute after cooking to get it to brown on top. Also added Tabasco sause in place of chilli sauce. Oh, and some salt/pepper. YUM! Found your recipe on Pinterest…

In TX, we leave out the chili sauce, but serve it with Salsa and Sour Cream. I'm going to give your recipe a try cause I love how your picture of it looks. Nice and brown and crispy. Thanks.

I made this for the superbowl, but it came out kind of bland! I think it's because I didn't have chili sauce. I don't even know what chili sauce is actually. Is it hot sauce? Anyway, it looked gorgeous but wasn't cheesy enough or flavorful enough. Still yummy, but next time I'll be adding more cheese and seasonings!!

amanda: Fresh to frozen spinach seems to work out well with equal mass to start. I sometimes use two 5 ounce packages of fresh spinach instead of the 10 ounce package of frozen spinach. After you steam the fresh spinach and drain it you will have about the same amount as the frozen spinach after it is thawed and drained.

Looks delish! I want to make this as part of a small appetizer spread for a group of 12-16. If I double the recipe, will that be enough for everyone? Wondering what a serving size is for this dip.

Marianna: I would probably play it safe and go for more, say triple, depending on the circumstances. (Time of day, are you serving it with any other apps, what you are spreading it on, etc.)

Forgot to add that I'll be serving this as the main app with 3 or 4 other apps at 6pm. Dip with crackers and veggies.

Marianna: I would just use a wider baking dish so that the dip is still only 1 1/2 – 2 inches thick. That way the bake time should not bee too much longer. It will be ready when the top is lightly golden brown and the sides are bubbling.

I make a delicious spinach artichoke dip as well, except I melt down White American cheese with a bit of milk to keep it from tightening up too much, and I also add chopped roasted red peppers…I can't keep enough around for parties, it's usually the first dip/appetizer to disappear! Yours sounds excellent and I will surely give it a try!
