Avocados are one of my all time favourite foods and the best way to enjoy them is in a homemade guacamole! Guacamole, aka guac, was developed by the Aztecs and is now common in Mexican cuisine. Guacamole was traditionally made with avocados and salt in a mortar and pestle and these days, extras are added with my favourites being: lime juice, jalapenos, cilantro, tomato and onion. The lime juice adds a brightness to guacamole and helps prevent the avocados from turning brown and the salt balances the sourness of the lime juice. The jalapeno adds some spicy heat, which goes well with the cool and creamy avocado, and the onion adds a nice pungency while the cilantro brings it all home. Guacamole can be enjoyed as a salad, salsa, dip, spread, and many other ways! Check out the huge list of recipes that use guacamole below!
This is
the best guacamole recipe!
Exposure to air starts to turn the avocado and guacamole brown… so it’s best enjoyed fresh! Lime juice helps prevent this and keep it bright, fresh and green longer! If you want to make it ahead, or if you need to store it for a while, cover the guacamole with plastic wrap.
It’s so amazingly good with tortilla chips for dipping!
Enjoy this fresh homemade 5 minute guacamole any time!
Authentic guacamole! Simple guacamole! Amazing guacamole!

Guacamole is delicious, especially with cilantro and cumin as you have in your recipe. Best when prepared fresh.
Like your recipe very much, nice photo.

I am more of a purist when it comes to guacamole, but the one ingredient I do add is some really good extra virgin olive oil, not a lot. It gives it a nice rich taste.

Your 'recipe' (I just throw mine together too) is a lot like mine! But when the mood strikes, I make "High Spirited Guacamole" — just add tequila and a little crushed red pepper and a little cayenne… 🙂
Kevin says
PatrickSarah Brondos: I never thought to add tequila to guacamole! I will have to try it! 🙂

your recipe is very similar to mine, with the exception that I use green onion and I like my guac with a hit of fresh garlic

Hi Kevin,
In the Philippines we eat our avocado more like a smoothie…mashed…add some milk and sugar and keep it in the fridge to make it cold or add ice…but I prefer it a bit frozen…just a little bit on the sides of the container…try it so good!

Apolita: I like the sound of a guacamole smoothie!

Kevin, this is exactly how I make my guacamole. . love this!!! delicious!!!
MommaJoy says
I zest my lime and throw that in too. And a minced clove of garlic. Love it! Oh, and for economy ‘s sake, I sometimes throw in frozen/fresh peas that I’ve put in the blender. Stretches the cost of the avocado.
